Château Beychevelle

Saint-Julien

A fourth growth of 1855 in Saint-Julien, Beychevelle is the most visited chartreuse in the Médoc, on the edge of the château road. Its name is said to be a contraction of baisse-voile, lower sail, from ships saluting the Duke of Épernon, Lord High Admiral of France and lord of the place; the lowered-sail longship on its label recalls the etymology.
