Château Desmirail

Margaux

A third growth of 1855 in the Margaux appellation, in the commune of Cantenac, Desmirail has had the most broken history of the Margaux classified growths: its vineyard was dispersed among neighbours for much of the twentieth century, and the growth was only reassembled and put back into production under its own name from the 1980s. The third-growth rank survived that eclipse, the 1855 classification not being revisable: it records a state of the nineteenth-century market and follows the name of the growth, not the condition of its vineyard. The wine today is a Médoc blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon and filled out with Merlot, in the perfumed, fine-tannined style of the appellation.
