Château Léoville Las Cases

Saint-Julien

A second growth of 1855 in Saint-Julien and the largest of the three Léovilles, Las Cases draws its grand vin from the Grand Clos, a walled parcel that borders Château Latour's vines in Pauillac to the south. Its reputation is for wine built to age very long, and it is often held to be the most first-growth-like of the seconds.

This growth does not appear on the list published by the Conseil des Grands Crus Classés en 1855, which records its members only and therefore names just thirteen at this rank while stating that there are fourteen second growths. Its rank as a second growth is not disputed.
