"Alsace grand cru Brand" is one of the fifty-one "Alsace grand cru" appellations, in the commune of Turckheim (Haut-Rhin), recognised in 1983. The soil sits on a fractured granite known as "granite de Turckheim" (quartz, feldspar, two micas), which gives Brand its identity and whose coarse, sandy texture favours deep rooting and good drainage; standing at the mouth of a valley, the vineyard is exposed to the foehn.
