"Alsace grand cru Engelberg" is one of the fifty-one "Alsace grand cru" appellations, in the communes of Dahlenheim and Scharrachbergheim-Irmstett (Bas-Rhin), recognised in 1992. On the south face of the Scharrachberg, between 230 and 300 metres, an old limestone quarry cuts into the middle of the slope; the well-drained marl-limestone-sandstone soils are fed at depth by layers that keep water supply steady.
