"Alsace grand cru Sporen" is one of the fifty-one "Alsace grand cru" appellations, in the commune of Riquewihr (Haut-Rhin), recognised in 1992. In a natural, gently sloping cirque, the decalcified Liassic clay-marl soils, rich in phosphoric acid, deep and heavy, hold water and give a slow, even, fairly late ripening.
