"Alsace grand cru Geisberg" is one of the fifty-one "Alsace grand cru" appellations, in the commune of Ribeauvillé (Haut-Rhin), recognised in 1983. On a homogeneous bedrock of dolomite and dolomitic marl capped by variegated gypsum-bearing sandy marl, the clay and stony soils sit on steep, due-south slopes, though cool night winds coming out of the valley (the "Tahlwendala") slow ripening.
