"Alsace grand cru Osterberg" is one of the fifty-one "Alsace grand cru" appellations, in the commune of Ribeauvillé (Haut-Rhin), recognised in 1992. The marly, stony soils come from the major shelly Muschelkalk limestone, variegated marl and dolomitic limestone; under the influence of winds from the Aubure valley the vineyard is fairly late, and the often long ripening of the grapes allows noble rot to develop.
