"Alsace grand cru Marckrain" is one of the fifty-one "Alsace grand cru" appellations, in the communes of Bennwihr and Kaysersberg Vignoble (Haut-Rhin), recognised in 1992. At the tip of the long promontory bounded by the Kaysersberg and Riquewihr valleys, on a gentle slope with a wide temperature swing, the marl-limestone soil rich in red clay, sand and pebbles favours the development of noble rot.
